What is Red Bull Next Gen Open?
The Red Bull Next Gen Open is the world tennis tournament for players under 21. This is the first tennis tournament organized by Red Bull. Last year 8 invited players from 8 different countries (Italy, France, Germany, Japan, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands) and ranked around 450 on the ATP Tour) participated in the first edition of this global event, played with the same rules and technology as in the Next Gen ATP Finals.
In 2019, qualifying tournaments will be held in Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Japan and Spain. The five winners of the national tournaments, two ATP guests (the two ATP players who stayed out of the top 7 that will play the Next Gen ATP Finals) and 7 guests will make up the list of participants of this year’s edition of the Network Bull Next Gen Open, which will have $ 20,000 in prizes.
This year it will celebrate two qualification phases and a final in Barcelona in search of a place for the tournament, which will coincide with the Next Gen ATP Finals.
- From 5 to 8 of september at Club Esportiu Valldoreix (Barcelona).
- From 12 to 15 of september at el Club de Tenis Chamartín (Madrid).
- Between October 3 and 6 at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona.
- In Milan between November 5 and 9.
The same innovative rules that ATP is implementing in the Next Gen ATP Finals will be used. In all matches the best of three short sets will be played to four games. In the national final, the coach can speak with his pupil at the end of each set using headphones and there will be a clock on the track marking the maximum 25 seconds between point and point.
Our player, John Echeverría will participate in the qualifying phase of Madrid, which will take place this week at the Chamartin Tennis Club. We wish goo luck to all the participants and invite the spectators to enjoy this innovative tournament.
